Languages, words, and pronunciations: The fun and enjoyment!

 Language words and pronunciations can create funny situations. There are some words that have different meanings in different languages. Certain letters are not used often in a particular language and instead of that letter, another letter is supposedly used in its place while pronouncing. Let us see how funny situations arise in communication.

Same word, different meanings

Sometimes, the same word has different meaning in different languages. For instance, the word susu in Bahasa Malayu (language of Malaysia) means milk, but in Hindi language of the Indian subcontinent, it implies urine. It is usually used in case of urine of kids. The word Garima is a name for Indian females and means Depth or Extent. But in Egyptian language, it means Crime. Again Irda is a name of Malaysian females. But in Egyptian language it means a female monkey. There are some surnames such as Duda in North India. But in Egyptian language, it stands for worm. 

Different pronounciation

Some languages do not have a particular letter and hence these are replaced by some other alternate letters. For example, in Arabic language P is absent and in its place, B is used. So Mr. Pol will become Mr. Bol. But Bol means urine in Arabic!

In Punjabi script, often speakers use J instead of U. Hence University iz pronounced as Juniversity. And in Nepali language, V is not present. It is replaced by B. Hence visa becomes Bisa, Vikram becomes Bikram, and Vishwanath becomes Bishbanath. In Gujrati language, S is pronounced as Sh. Hence Sukh becomes Shukh and Soup becomes Shoup for speakers of the language.
