Waterless technology! What it is and why is it important?

Waterless technology is vital in the near future since water though an essential commodity is also scarce. This scarcity is increasing and in another few decades, life would be difficult.

Water scarcity and future

Already water is becoming scarce in the world and in next few years, this would severely affect living. According to WHO, by the year 2025, 50% of world population would be in water-shortage areas. In the less developed world, 22% of health care facilities are functioning without adequate water. And 21% have no proper sanitation facilities.

By 2050, with a world population of 9.7 billion water-stressed areas would show a further rise. How to handle such a situation? Could waterless technology provide some respite?

The world Waterless is a misnomer since products cannot be made waterless in the true sense of the world. Water wastage and hence need of water can be minimized. It is important to be transparent on this aspect of the products and be truthful and honest on it.

The demand for these products is more in water-stressed areas and in rural areas where water scarcity is more. Women have to travel far to procure some water for cooking and household work. Potable water is also a problem there.

These products need to be innovated for toilet use, laundry, showering, and dishwashing. Also carbon footprint of the material used to make the products should be minimal.

Products made for bathing should be convenient and also stylish and should not compromise on personal hygiene level. And in clothes washing, these products should offer superior performance in one wash.

Advantages of this technology

This technology would ensure water saving and increase in hygiene and cleanliness levels. Water is valuable and need to be preserved. But it should in no way negatively affect hygiene status of a person. Clothes, body, and utensils should be clean so that infection rate is decreased.

Water conservation would help this and future generations and hence innovative methods needs to be applied in making products that can conserve it.
