Vipassana: The illogical, absurd, and anti-human behavior thinking! What is wrong in Vipassana?

Vipassana : What is wrong in it?

Vipassana is an ongoing practice of having an insight. The propagaters of this movement want people to attend it in large numbers and come every year for it. But there is something grossly wrong in the basic thinking of these vipassana promoters. It is an absurd, illogical, type of thinking that is against the very essence of living. Let us have a look into what the practice says and what is wrong in it.

Vipassana

1. Vipassana is said to have come from Lord Buddha. The teachers at the vipassana centers want to teach these Buddhist way of living to the masses. They talk about Buddha and his meditation during the 10-day course and yet say that it is non-sectarian!!! Are they not fooling people? They are serving people with Buddhist teachings with the label of non-sectarian on it. It is similar to serving alcohol to a person in a bottle labeled 'water'!!!

2. The students are 10 days away from work and family in a premise made in the midst of Nature. This itself makes people happy and nearness to Nature makes a person refreshed. It is a conducive environment to think and reflect. So the environment has a role in making a person think and not necessarily the meditation that the students do throughout the day.

3. The students are free of electronic gadgets and this itself removes an important source of stressor many. But all this only for 10 days. After that, the student returns to the same world. And if he or she is in the business line, the person will again start use of electronic gadgets and cannot avoid it. In fact, now it will be the other way round. The person will try to avoid the phone but cannot and this mind tussle itself be a reason for stress for the person. So one stress has been replaced by another format stress!!!  Any use of Vipassana in cutting the person's life stress?  NONE at all!

4. The students do long hours of meditation. One can do deep thinking or reflection by sitting or reclining anywhere. A particular body position will not necessarily give a person more thinking capability!!!  It will only tire a person and decrease the concentration on thinking. The focus is likely to be lost rather than achieved! So stop striking a pose for thinking. Restful thinking in peace can be done in any position. This is my hypothesis and I am sure the studies would favor and prove it.

5. The students do partial or intermittent Fasting. There are various studies of effect of fasting on body and mind but the impact is variable and needs more research before it can be pushed to medicine as a supplement to mainstream therapy.

6. The preachers of this modality want people to be detached and non-reactive. Emotions are very much a part of humans and the animal kingdom. They are an essential thing. It is agreed that they are a cause of pain for the person and also lead to problems in society. But that does not imply you can separate emotions from humans. It is an impossible thing to do so. But one can give training from young days to not over attach and over react. But non-detachment and no reaction would be against the very nature of humans. And hence this practice is anti-human nature and runs the risk of converting the trainees to robots or zombies and bipolar that their own people cannot understand.

The practice lacks logic and research. The promoters started on a hypothesis that they did no research to prove it and before throwing it out to the masses. It is not a good way of living and is not an art of living at all!!!
