New River Gorge National Park: the new addition to the long list of national parks of the USA!

 

America has a significant number of national parks that are its honor. And now there is another addition to this list. Yes, West Virginia has now got another national park called New River Gorge. It was a national river initially and later became a park. But now it has been elevated to the status of a national park. It has also been preserved. It is the 63rd national park of the USA and the 20th preserve area.

Recently, the park has been added to the long list of national parks of the USA. Situated in West Virginia, it boasts of a huge coverage area that is 70k acres. It has 53 miles of river and sandstone cliffs are within its area. It is around 60 minutes drive from Charleston of West Virginia. The park is now under the charge of the National Park Service. It has three locations included within its territory: the New River Gorge itself, the Bluestone National Scenic River and the Gauley National Recreation Area.

The park is a good place for nature lovers and also adventure lovers. It has the Appalachian canyon which is a popular holiday destination. People flock here for rock climbing, hiking, and also whitewater rafting. 1500 rock climbing routes lead to this impressive park. There are also mountain biking trails in this national park. Additionally, there are great places also for hardcore adventure lovers. They can enjoy the class IV and V whitewater rapids also located within the park area. To add to the fun, there is great wildlife also within the park. The white-tailed deer, bald eagles, river otters, and plants like West Virginia’s white and pink state flower as well as the great rhododendron are part of the national park.
