The advantages of the China-Laos Railway

The connection of China with Laos via a rail line would make a lot of things easier and simpler for the people of Laos. Their country will embark on the road of development. It can speed up this process since the railways will link it also to other ASEAN countries. It will be a major arterial line for the people of Laos since it will run from its North to its South. It would also greatly aid the modernization of the small country.

More on the rail project

China Railway No. 5 Engineering Group (CREC-5) is handling this vast project. It drilled the tunnel in Boten and this would be 6453.5 meters long. This is one of the 10 tunnels along the China-Laos rail line that would be longer than 5 km each.

The drill-through work is difficult since the geography of the area includes karst, bedrock, fault fracture zones, gypsum, carbon mudstone, and water inrush. But the company is expert in this work and is ready to face any challenges that might come its way during the making of this railway line.

Laos has a strategy of converting from a landlocked country to a land-linked nation. And China is helping it in it. This railway would be 414 km long and would run from the Mohan-Boten border gate in northern Laos to the capital of Vientiane. This would cut down the journey time from the current 13 to 4 hours. The work had started on this project in December 2016 and the firm believes that it will be able to throw open the project to its people in December 2021.
