What is incel culture? Is it time to call the ideology and group as terrorist?

Incel culture-induced violence and murders are rising in the world. It is affecting the health, mental peace, and peaceful existence of people and societies around the world. In August 2021, five people were killed by a man named Jake Davidson in Plymouth in the UK. Jake's belief in incel culture might have contributed to this murderous intentions on his part. But security experts want to still not call this group a terror group.

What is incel?

Incel is an involuntary celibate. Such people want to enter into a good relationship and have a good sex life but are unable to get one. The concept found ground about 3 decades back when a website started a support group for those who are left behind in life and cannot find a good life and sex partner.

Mental status of incels

The incels and their supporting groups have different mental conditions and thinking on their state. Some have immense self-pity. They have a number of grievances against society and people. They are misogynist and feel that women dislike and hate them and do not want to help them. They nurture feelings of hate against women and men who are in happy relationships. They resort to revenge and violence and even killing.

Haydarapasa and excavation

These incels are online and one of the internet forum has as high as 13k members with more than 200k threads. Florence Keen, from the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation at Kings College London has been studying these incels and states that not all are violent. Some are understanding and cope with it in a non-violent way.  Some hold society responsible for their plight while others think it is their fate.

Present status of such violence

Currently, many have begun to feel that incel culture is breeding fast and is a form of violent extremism. Canada considers this mindset for detailed investigation. But the UK court has yet not put it as a terrorist ideology. Hope it does not get delayed doing it. Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, head of UK counter-terrorism policing, told Parliament's Home Affairs Committee:

"We don't know whether it is Islamist, or right wing, or left wing extremism or incel or....they are just interested in violence."

Most of these criminal minded people are young and lonely living in a virtual world. They have no proper family or support to take care of them.
