International experts feel that the coronavirus pandemic could have been prevented!!!

 International experts have aired their opinions on the current covid-19 pandemic that has hit the world. They feel that the pandemic could have been averted or its terrible impact lessened in the world with timely actions. But there have been problems and delays at multiple levels. They feel that warning signals went unheeded, WHO was slow in ringing the bells and there was utter mismanagement at the political and administrative parts of countries. And this all helped the virus to spread easily and now mutate and cause more harm. 

Report of international experts

A report made by the International experts panel was presented at Geneva on 12 May 2021. The expert doctors panel was made by WHO. It said:

"The situation we are in today could have been prevented," 

It was a toxic combination of the triad of procrastination, a lack of preparation and a poor reaction. Things were allowed to slip when they could have been controlled and checked with timely actions and responses. The experts have named it as the chernobyl of the 21st century. It is a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. The panel's co-president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf summarized:

"Bad strategic decisions, a lack of will to tackle inequalities and an uncoordinated system created a toxic cocktail that allowed the pandemic to develop into a catastrophic humanitarian crisis," 

"There has been a spiral of failures, gaps and delays in preparation and response."

There were 13 experts on the panel. WHO had formed it after it received heavy criticism for its poor and improper response during the crisis. The panel took eight months to accurately and minutely analyze the current human disaster and compiled this report.

Three main reasons cited 

The experts felt that China was slow in taking note of the warnings that its doctors were sounding about the deadly virus. They did not react immediately and tried to hush up the matter. They were slow in letting the world know about the virus spreading on its soil. 

Next lapse was at the WHO level that reacted very slowly at the beginning. Later they picked up pace but by then it was too late. The virus had already spread to the whole world. WHO was late in ringing the bells to make the world know about it. They did not chalk out the strategies properly fir nations to understand and obey. 

WHO  waited until March 2020 before declaring that the situs was one of a global health emergency. They could have easily done it earlier and saved on many lives lost. Around 3.3 million people worldwide have died in this pandemic. 

And after that, the country's politicians had their own delays added on to this. Lockdown happened but haphazardly without consideration of the poor people. 

The future as per the panelists 

The experts felt that the situation is still grim and henceforth needs to be tackled properly. They feel that the rich nations have procured the vaccine and vaccinated an adequate number of their own people. Each of them should now send at least 1 billion doses of vaccines to the poor nations by 1 September 2021. And by mid-2022, these should be doubled. Vaccine makers should provide their expertise to poor nations and help them start manufacturing vaccines on their own. The panel added:

"If there is no progress on this within three months, there should be a suspension of patent protection,"
