People say
"Settle down in life"
By this, they mean "get married"
But the fact is that marriages do not settle people. They in fact unsettle people especially women of third world countries like India. The reasons are:
1. Patriarchy. Women follow patrilocality and move to in-laws house. This itself is unsettling.
2. She loses her family and friend support. She loses her parents.
3. She loses her name and surname
4. She loses her identity and entity
5. She loses her rights to property from her parental side. She neither gets it from the in-laws house
6. She loses control over her money
7. She loses control over her body and health especially reproductive health
8. She and her family of consanguinity lose money in form of dowry and expenditure for marriage
9. She loses her happiness and emotional well-being
10. She loses her autonomy and decision making power. Many do not have this even in their parents' house. Sad.
11. She loses her mental health often
12. She loses her job. She is forced to quit it for the sake of family.
13. She loses her personal space, and much more.
What type of society is this where you unsettle a woman and exploit her for someone else's sake?

No, the family of affinity is never her family. Because it is her husband's family that she is forced to call her own. But often, it is not hers for sure.
If her husband dies or she has no children, she can be easily thrown out.
And the society is so made that neither law nor government nor society and nor her parents will come forward to help and support her. What a shame!
Think it over. Overhaul society for true happiness. Otherwise it will remain what it is: a selfish society that EXPLOITS and UNSETTLES women! And has no shame over it!
