Norway: 29 Covid-19 vaccine-related deaths!!!

 Pfizer-BioNTech Covid vaccine is the one available in Norway for mass vaccination. There have been some side-effects noted with this vaccine in the world but these were managed. But now in Norway, 29 elderly people above the age of 75 years have died after getting the vaccine.

Norway started its mass vaccination program with Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine. And now there are reports that 29 people above the age of 75 who had underlying health issues have died after receiving the vaccine. The nation has vaccinated 25k people since the vaccination drive that began on 27 December 2020. 

It was earlier believed that the fatality rate was above 80 years of age. But now 4 deaths of elderly vaccinated people of 75 years and above has been confirmed. There is now concern at this front. The government is in a dilemma whether to continue with the vaccination for this group.

What local authorities state?

The Norwegian Medicines Agency has confirmed that all deaths are linked to the vaccine of Pfizer that is the only one available in the country. They told Bloomberg that 13 death cases have been investigated and another 16 fatalities are being probed into:

“There are 13 deaths that have been assessed, and we are aware of another 16 deaths that are currently being assessed,” 

All the dead patients had serious co-morbidities. Other people also experienced side-effects that included nausea, vomiting, fever, local injection site reactions, and worsening of underlying conditions. The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) feel that benefits are marginal or none for those with less life left to live. People with frail body systems have fatal outcomes even with mild ill-effects of the vaccine.

Pfizer and its statement

Pfizer has also issued a statement related to the deaths. It said that it is investigating. But also said that the number of deaths are not alarming!!! According to them, it is in line with expectations!

So should young healthy people of Norway risk taking the vaccine? The government has said nothing on it. It is not certain whether the deaths are due to some genetic differences of Norwegian people or due to inherent problem of the developed vaccine or the batch of the vaccine.
