Jeans and winter
Most of the stylish adults and also kids like jeans as casual wear all the year round and 24/7. It is a timeless piece of clothing. It is rough and tough to wear good for heavy work as well as a fashion icon. But one drawback of cotton denim or jeans is that they tend to not be suitable for the cold weather despite their thick fabric nature. This is because jeans take in wetness and hence feel cold in cold weather when the air humidity is high. Besides, jeans are not good for repelling the cold wind. It will give you a biting cold feeling. But what can be done when you still want to wear your jeans on a snowy cold day? Here are the various tricks that would help you fulfil your desire for it!
1. Be innovative and creative and you can wear your jeans also in that extra snowy and cold winter. This is by layering. It means multiple layers of another fabric below the jeans. These may include thermals and Heattech that would slip on easily and also keep you warm below the jeans. Synthetic water-wicking materials are good for underlayers.
2. Buy jeans that are warm in winter. These are the flannel-layered jeans or cashmere blended jeans (cotton, elastane, and cashmere) that are nowadays available in shops as well as online. They are also called winter jeans. Go for it and you can wear it in winter and still remain warm. This is denim with wool that is woven directly into the fabric. Hence warmth and elegance are ensured in one go! These are very comfortable and give you warmth similar to a blanket. There are also synthetic (polyethylene or polypropylene) fleece materials such as polar fleece or Sherpa lining which has similar benefits. This gives insulation and makes the jeans waterproof and windproof. But these are less stylishly made and hence they are protective but not flattering. Besides, the polar fleece is also cheap and effective.
3. Long coat-A long coat over the jeans will keep you extra warm and happy. It should cover also the thigh and leg area for that super comfy feeling! The wool-knit versions are the best.
4. A cozy pair of over-the-knee boots also do wonders for that great extra warmth with jeans!
5. Heavier weighted denim also protects well. This will preserve the style as well that is missing in flannel-lined jeans. Denim is compared in weight per yard. Normal men’s jeans are about 12-16 ounces. Heavier the denim, thicker and stiffer the fabric and warmer it is. Besides insulation, the water-resistance of this fabric is also more. These jeans retain the style as well.
6. If you have to walk or work in snow, put jeans below and cover it with weatherproof material pants and long coat. Even basic rain pants can serve the purpose.
So enjoy the jeans all-year-round!
