Julian is now in the Belmarsh Prison that has top security. But he is struggling there, say his supporters and also his partner, Stella Morris. He has been there since last year when he was arrested from the Ecuador Embassy in London. He was shifted to solitary confinement when the other inmates developed coronavirus infection.

Stella Morris and her fears

Julian's partner, Stella Morris said that the conditions under which Julian is now living are dangerous for him. She told Sky News Australia:

"He's in atrocious conditions."

"The prison is a dangerous place, suicides and murders are commonplace, he is surrounded by very serious criminals, one in five are convicted of murder."

"And there's a COVID outbreak currently in Belmarsh prison, specifically in Julian's wing."

On 4 January 2021, a Judge will decide on his extradition to the USA.

Julian has been in the UK for 8-9 years now. In 2012, he breached bail and took asylum in the Ecuadoran Embassy in London. And last year, Ecuador took back its asylum protection for him and the British police officials evicted him out of the Embassy premises and jailed him. He has to face trial in the UK before his eviction to the USA.

Julian and his charges in the USA

The USA authorities have framed charges against Julian. He is wanted there on 17 espionage charges and one charge of computer misuse. His organization WikiLeaks had published some confidential American military documents on their website. If convicted, his maximum sentence could be 175 years in prison.

But he has a lot of fans and supporters who feel that he should be released. They feel that if extradited to the USA, the jail conditions there might violate human rights. Stella had also called on Donald Trump to issue a pardon to Julian before he exits the WhiteHouse after his defeat at the November 2020 election.

She had tweeted:

"These are Julian's sons Max and Gabriel. They need their father. Our family needs to be whole again. I beg you, please pardon him home for Christmas."

Edward Snowden who is also a whistleblower with permanent residency in Russia now had also asked Donald Trump to forgive Julian.
