Modular kitchen are overhyped and a fad!

Modular kitchen is the in thing with many people opting for it. But if you ask me, I think it is an overhyped concept with a lot of disadvantages and very few advantages. First, let us start with as to what is a modular kitchen.

What is a modular kitchen?

Modular kitchen is a modern kitchen design in which pre-made standardized units or modules are assembled together to create a space for storing kitchen tools and food items. 

In traditional kitchen, the units are made from the scratch and at the site. 

Modular kitchen vs traditional kitchen 

Modular kitchen is a newer concept. While traditional kitchen is an old way of doing the same thing. 

In modular kitchen, units are fabricated in industries and workshops and assembled at site. In traditional kitchen, units are made at the site from scratch.

In modular kitchen, there is limited choice on wood quality or unit quality. In traditional kitchen, there is a vast choice to choose from and you can have different varieties of kitchen design. 

In modular kitchen, designs are limited. But in traditional kitchen, there is a higher relative scope for creating different designs.

In modular kitchen, designs are stereotyped. In traditional kitchen, they are more custom-made.

Modular kitchen needs professional people to do it and it can be costly. Traditional kitchen does not require experts to do it. A carpenter can do the job and it would be cheaper.

Modular kitchen can end up with a higher maintenance. Traditional kitchen has lesser maintenance.

Modular kitchen is less durable. Traditional kitchen is more durable.

Modular kitchen looks sleek and stylish and mod and has an aesthetic value. Traditional kitchen is also good looking. 

Modular kitchen making takes less time to install because it is just an assembly of pre-made units. Traditional kitchen takes longer to be ready.

Traditional kitchen 

People who love to show off like modular kitchen. But budget friendly people with no tendency to show off go for traditional kitchen.

People with modular kitchen have a high feeling because they are in line with modern times. They get happiness with this high feeling. People with traditional kitchen are happy as their needs are met and not with show off.

Modular kitchen has organized areas. Traditional kitchen can also be made to organize things. 

Modular kitchen wastes a lot of space. If you look at the plate section, only 10-12 plates can fit there. But with traditional kitchen, you can stack more plates in the same place. 

Modular kitchen drawers can be pulled out. This is not possible in traditional kitchen unless you specifically create a design that way. 

Like traditional kitchen, modular kitchen also has shelves and drawers below the kitchen table top. It might be difficult for aged people to use the lower drawers in both modular and traditional kitchen. 

Modular kitchen 

So you see, traditional kitchen design is not bad. It is not costly, requires less maintenance, prevents space wastage, and can remain for more years. Only drawback is that the drawers cannot be pulled out. But it can organize kitchen tools and pantry food items well. 

Modular kitchen has aesthetic value. Other than that it has no great advantage over the traditional kitchen design.
