Organizations, legal system, police force all seem to claim that gender based violence has lessened. They state that women are in a better position than before. But I do not think so. Also, I feel that all of these people are over-optimistic of the world.
As I travel, I see that nothing much has changed in the world and especially in Asia and India. Women continue to be suppressed and oppressed. Their voices remain unheard. Their voices fall on deaf ears. In fact, they are taught to not voice their own concerns and opinions.
There is some change but it is still insignificant. Nothing great has changed for this half of the population. Gen Z might be having more freedom but this freedom has gone in the wrong direction. There is no positive change in the lives of women.
Gender based violence is still present in many parts of the world; rural or urban! This is in high numbers and a look at the police reports and data will prove it.
Why is this so?
The reasons are multiple.
1. Deep-rooted culture that teaches daughters and girls to not have a voice and teaches sons and boys to dominate and do what they want.

2. Strongly patriarchal society that puts women in an inferior position
3. No reigns on wrong behaviours of sons, brothers, husband, or father. Misdeeds of men is pardoned and good deeds of women not appreciated enough
4. Poor police work
5. Improper ineffective biased laws
6. Wrong medical teaching and hence improper handling of cases by medical fraternity. Even WHO is wrong on their guidelines on ways of dealing with gender based violence.
WHO states that cases of domestic violence should not be universally reported. They add that the women love the person who inflicted violence on them. This is extremely a wrong thing.
A woman might not want to report due to ingrained culture, society or family pressure, fear, insecurity, wrong teachings while upbringing, stigma attached with reporting, and no support from anyone around. Love is rarely the cause for not reporting. Besides, it is absolutely wrong to love someone who hates you or inflicts injuries on you. There is no excuse for domestic violence. If at all she says it is love, then reason out to the woman why she is wrong in loving such a person. Also, the medical fraternity can become the support that she surely needs in this crisis and help her get to safety and out of danger.
Therefore,
Have zero tolerance for domestic violence and report all cases.
Also, extend proper permanent support to such women.
Help change laws in favour of women and girls. Only saving and educating women will not help. Help her to be truly independent and financially empowered with no harassment from anyone.
Do not pardon men who inflict injuries (physical, sexual, emotional, neglect abuse) on women.
Educate men in society to be sensitive towards women and hear them.
Take strict action against police ignoring or not hearing complaints of women.
Make society and world a safe and happy space for women. Take preventive steps as well to halt it.
