Bluesky name might be appearing in your social media pages as an advertisement. What is it?
What is Bluesky?
Bluesky is a newly launched social media platform that has similarities with Elon Musk's X. The color of its logo is same as that of X. Its logo is a diagrammatic butterfly.
It has a bar on the left that has homepage, notifications, search etc. on it. One can post on it and also repost other posts. They can like and comment on published posts.
It highly resembles Elon Musk's X. But the difference is that it is not centralized like the latter. This implies that one need not sign up with Bluesky to post or comment. They can use other social media accounts to do so. However, most users would like to sign up with Bluesky rather than not.
Thus, Bluesky is getting a lot of subscribers for its platform. It gets an average of a million new sign ups in a day.
Who created Bluesky?
Bluesky is the brainchild of Jack Dorsey. He was formerly working with Twitter and was its head.
But though Jack started it, he is no more in the Board since May 2024. He has also removed his Bluesky account in September 2024.
The chief executive, Jay Graber is now running it as a US public benefit firm.
It started in 2019 but subscribers at that time were only invited ones. Later, in February 2024, it became free for all to sign up for it.

They took that long to rectify any technical snags etc. with the platform. But outrages still happen as in November 2024. But it was sorted out.
Will Bluesky be a tough competition for X?
Many people are joining Bluesky. The number surged after Donald Trump won the 2024 Presidential election. Since Elon Musk was supporting Donald's candidature, those who disliked Donald left X and joined Bluesky. So Bluesky opened to the public at the right time.
Some people feel that X has gone toxic and hence they shifted to Bluesky. Several celebrities have also joined Bluesky such as Greg Davies and Lizzo.
X has more than several hundreds of millions of users. Bluesky will take time to catch up with it.
