For the older woman: How to handle cougar love properly in society?

 

Cougar love between an older woman and a younger man is seen often these days. Society and its thinking are changing and people ask why not? Age has become just a number in relationships and many times these relationships turn out to be good and longer-lasting. Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra and Pete Davidson and Kate Beckinsale are just a few examples of such affairs and marriages. Priyanka had once said:

“People gave us a lot of shit about the age gap and still do.”

She added:

“I find it really amazing when you flip it and the guy is older, no one cares, and actually people like it.”

Thus though such alliances are on the rise, the mentality of the people around has been slow to change and accept it. Such unions are odd in this world and there would be many who are criticizing them. So what should the older woman be careful about in trying to maintain this relationship:

1.       She should be clear in what exactly she desires with such a relationship. Is it just fun? Or does she want to settle in life with the guy even if he is younger?

2.       She should be aware that the guy because he is younger might also be emotionally immature. They may be inept in communication and understanding at many levels and areas. So tread and deal with care.

3.       He will be financially not as sound as you. This mismatch might become points of contention or issues later on especially if the man is insecure at the same time about it. But it can be explained that you two are in different stages of life and maybe when the young date is your age, he might be better financially than you.

4.       Know that the young date might also have past relationships of varying severity. It is better to know about them and deal with them well beforehand. He might also have a birth family and might be too attached to them. They might not be willing for him to go ahead with his relationship with an older woman. So sort these things out before you proceed any further or go deeper into the relationship.

5.       Because of the age difference, there might be some differences in understanding things. Better communication can overcome this and hence make it a point to explain things properly and in detail if some disagreement occurs or is likely to occur.

6.       You two can never be the same but you should have some things in common.

7.       One should be clear whether it is true love or just a passing fling!

8.       The young person should also be clear in what he wants from you. Is it just a fun time or is it real feelings from his side too? If it is money that the young man is seeking, it might not make the relationship last for long!
