We assume a lot of things in life. This is not good for self, for family, for friend circle, and also society. Every case is different and one cannot generalize or extrapolate things in life. Many times, these assumptions come from what our parents and teachers have said and sometimes from our own past experiences. Some of such assumptions are absolutely wrong and include:

1. The other people in society are happier than me. We assume so but the fact is that everyone have their own sadness to overcome. No one is happy in this world. We all are in the same boat!
2. I have absolute right over the ownership of body and time of my partner. But the truth is that one cannot be possessive of the partner. Each person needs to give the other person space and understand it.
3. What has befallen on others will never happen to me. Anything can happen anytime and at any place to a person of any age.
4. I am young and have many years to live. No one knows when death comes and all are vulnerable irrespective of age.
5. If I make family, I will be happy. There are innumerable instances where a married person is still alone despite being in a family or group. Also, people think that a single person is always ready to mingle. In the modern days, this does not hold true and single person are very happy alone and on their own.

6. Money brings happiness. The truth is that money can buy material things but not happiness.
7. One needs money to be happy. Often, happiness comes from simple things of life and these are not expensive things.
8. Good times always return. This does not hold true for everyone. Often, sorrows are non-ending. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
9. Marriages are made in heaven. Not so. You have the right to decide your partner. Change if not good.
10. Parents and teachers and seniors are always right. This is not true always.
11. Mothers are always loving. This may vary from culture to culture and families to families.
12. One should respect parents and tolerate relatives even if they are bad. The fact is auto-correction of bad relatives rarely takes place and one has to bring it to their notice if some bad act is noticed.
13. Do not speak against ills of society. If you don't speak, the society will never improve.
