Beware: Vipassana disciples: Pseudo, bipolar, and confused!

Vipassana has been over-glorified and is falsely been promoted as a science. The fact is there are no properly conducted studies to prove any of the claims the propagating people and the blind and brain-washed disciples claim. The subject is one confused mix-up of certain things that has no applications in modern society.

Most of the studies on Vipassana are ill-designed and uncontrolled. They are non-randomized with no proper inclusion criteria. There are some pre-clinical imaging studies of brain waves on senior meditators of Vipassana. But these cannot be extrapolated to normal people in modern society. Besides, the study groups have been extremely small and the studies can be called more of pilot or feasibility studies rather that effectiveness and safety studies. The hard protocol of the program might have caused problems in some students but there is no mention of these in the studies. Only details of those who completed the studies are mentioned and no talk about the people who left the studies is present.

And the funniest part is that the Vipassana Research Institute sells their improperly-performed studies to gullible people. Scientific data has to be free for all available on the internet and should be peer-reviewed in a blind way. The Institute states that people should be like islands (exist but in a detached form and not react). It seems they are following their own teachings and remaining on an island of some jumbled-up components far away from the medical and scientific field. This cannot be so in the modern society.

Some meta analysis on the subject has drawn a null. It has not been said to be yet in any way confirmed to be of benefit to humans and society.

The weird products

I have closely observed some followers of Vipassana. But I have not been too happy knowing them. They appear to me to be like robots and zombies with no real feelings and goodness. They are unable to overcome their vices in society and seem to be running away from society and also themselves. They appear completely puzzled and bipolar. One moment they talk like normal human beings and suddenly they start talking like a saint. All this gives a pseudo feeling. It might be because they are trying to keep themselves away from attachment and reaction as per the teachings of Vipassana. But such detached non-reactive state suits a sage and not a wordly family man.

The foreigners come to this spiritual retreat more for just a once-in-a-lifetime experience. They any way love to travel and explore and Vipassana is one of their similar spiritual experiences.

Vipassana does not help society

Society runs on healthy and adequate communication. Progress also requires such a communication. Research too needs it and development of humanity also is dependent on good communication.

Humans by nature are gregarious. Attachment is seen even in the animal kingdom. How can humans run away from it in a society? Vipassana wants its followers to remain in the society and yet not attach!!! Ridiculous! The preachers talk of compassion and kindness. Yet they want people to not react. How can one be kind to another person without a reaction? Such contradictory statements itself are grossly wrong in Vipassana. Normal sane people would understand this aspect and stay away from the course.

Vipassana is targeted towards making an individual cope with his problems. But that even a certified medical practitioner can do it well and without medicines. Why go to Vipassana for it? And Vipassana people are not certified for it!!!

Vipassana does nothing to help society: directly or indirectly. The bad continue with their wrongs...and these wrongs remain untouched. They continue unabated and thus Vipassana has not in any way benefitted humans or humankind.

National medical organizations need to look into these spiritual activities and their false non-scientific claims and put an end to it and save people from being brain-washed.
